BACKGROUND

Rehl Gardens was started by Kathy Rehl in 1997. With a bachelor’s degree in Plant Science and Agronomy from Cornell University and an MBA from Binghamton University. Kathy was well prepared to launch her own landscaping business. Rehl Gardens has grown to serve hundreds of clients in the Metrowest Boston area, whose properties range from large estates to modest suburban homes and small city lots.

 

Along with Kathy’s educational background and years of experience caring for gardens, it is her passion for gardening that shows through in the work that Rehl Gardens does. Kathy enjoys designing new gardens, as well as breathing new life into mature landscapes.

 

Kathy currently holds a seat on the Natick Conservation Commission, which underscores her commitment to ecologically sensitive landscapes.

PHILOSOPHY

The Rehl Gardens approach to gardening is rooted in the desire to bring out the full beauty of the landscape while leaving a positive impact on the environment. Although we are skilled in caring for well-loved garden plants including roses, peonies and clematis, we also incorporate native plants wherever possible.

A system of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) means that plants are frequently examined and least-toxic solutions are applied only when pests are detected at damaging levels. Soil tests are performed on a regular basis to make sure that nutrients are applied only If needed. The primary fertilizer used is formulated specifically for Massachusetts landscapes and is comprised of mostly organic material. This scientifically based use of chemicals and fertilizers saves money and minimizes damage to beneficial insects, protects human and pet health, and helps preserve natural systems.

Rehl Gardens is able to provide this level of expert attention to your through a competent group of gardening professionals.  The entire team shares Kathy’s passion for gardening. When we go home at the end of the day, many of us go right back to work in our own gardens!

 

The skills the staff brings to the company are augmented during the cold winter months with extensive training, both in-house and at local horticultural outlets such as the Arnold Arboretum, UMass Extension, and the New England Wildflower Society. We are constantly updating our collective gardening knowledge and spreading the information.
